A Little Rock man is in custody after an attack on a bank security guard and an armed standoff with police, authorities said.

Officers were called around 9:30 a.m. Friday to Regions Bank, 6101 Baseline Road, a report from the city's Police Department shows. On the way, responders said, they saw a man who fit the suspect description walking west.

The man, later identified as 40-year-old Terrence Jones, ran toward officers while reaching inside his jacket as if he was going to draw a weapon, police said. Officers pursued him on foot down Baseline Road, where he then displayed a black-handle revolver and put it to his own head, according to the report.

After a short standoff, Jones placed the weapon on the ground and was taken into custody, police said.

Witnesses at the bank told authorities that Jones had become upset earlier Friday because a clerk couldn't cash his check. When a security guard asked him to leave, he started punching her, causing her to fall on the ground and hit her head on the back of the sidewalk, the report states. She reportedly lost consciousness for a few seconds.

When she woke up, she told police, she noticed Jones had taken her gun from its holster.

The 49-year-old guard was transported to UAMS Medical Center, police said. Her injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Jones is charged with robbery, property theft and possession of a firearm by a certain person. As of Friday afternoon, he was being held at the Pulaski County jail with bail not yet set, records show.
