Authorities are investigating as a suicide the death of an inmate found hanging in his cell Thursday afternoon at an Arkansas prison.

The Arkansas Department of Correction said Danny Ollis, 44, was found shortly before 3:15 p.m. "hanging in a locked single-man cell" at the East Arkansas Regional Unit in Brickeys. He was pronounced dead less than an hour later after emergency medical treatment was unsuccessful.

Arkansas State Police and the prisons system are both conducting investigations into the death.

Records show Ollis was a habitual offender who had been sentenced over the years on more than 50 charges including theft of property, drug counts, residential burglary and forgery.

He was scheduled to remain incarcerated through 2028.
