FAYETTEVILLE -- Justices of the peace tweaked pay for three positions during a Personnel Committee meeting Monday.
Most of the changes are not expected to significantly affect overall county budgets because of savings elsewhere, department heads said Monday. However, changes will be discussed again during the finance committee today before going to the Quorum Court, officials said.
The committee approved allowing an employee who wants to take a lower-level building maintenance technician position to keep his current pay. The technician position has a lower starting pay than what the employee is making, according to county records.
Higher pay also was approved to hire a prospect for a vacant juvenile officer position. The candidate is a certified law enforcement officer with a military background, said Norma Frisby, director of Juvenile Court Services.
The pay, if approved by the Quorum Court, would be $1 more per hour than the typical starting pay for the position, according to committee records.
Justices of the peace also approved a roughly $1,900 pay raise for an environmental officer whose duties increased since the environmental department was reorganized.
Boston Mountain Solid Waste District took over the Washington County household hazardous waste collection center, a rural recycling program and three county employee positions Jan. 1.
Washington County no longer has an environmental director, said Michael Watson, Human Resources director.
