'Strings Attached'

Arkansas Symphony Orchestra string players will be soloists in "Strings Attached," the second in the orchestra's Intimate Neighborhood Concerts Series, 7 p.m. today at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 310 W. 17th St., Little Rock.

Violinists Tricia McGovern Freeney, Meredith Maddox Hicks and Katherine Williamson will be out front for Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto for Three Violins in F major. Principal violist Katherine Reynolds will be the soloist for Henri Vieuxtemps's Elegy for viola and strings. The program also includes J.S. Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 6 and Slo-Mo by Adam Schoenberg, the orchestra's 2017-18 Composer of the Year. Geoffrey Robson conducts.

Puppet at play

A shy, inquisitive student (Max Churchill) whose outlet for his creativity is a Christian puppet ministry has his world turned upside down when his puppet takes on a shocking and dangerously irreverent personality all its own in Hand to God by Robert Askins, 7:30 p.m. today-Saturday and March 15-17, 2:30 p.m. Sunday and March 18 at the at Studio Theatre, 320 W. '#5WomenArtists'

At its 2nd Friday Art Night reception, 5-8 p.m. Friday, Historic Arkansas Museum opens an exhibit, "#5WomenArtists," featuring the work of five 20th-century Arkansas-connected artists -- paintings and landscapes by Jamie Goza Fox (1887-1979); paintings of rural scenes by Essie Ann Treat Ward (1902-1981), aka Grandma Moses of the Ozarks; charcoal drawings of landscapes, townscapes and animals by Elsie Mae Ford (1901-1977); and paintings and drawings by Natalie Smith Henry (1907-1992) and Neppie Lee Conner (1917-2006).

The exhibit, in collaboration with the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, celebrates Women's History Month. The reception, in the museum's Stella Boyle Smith Atrium, will feature appetizers, beverages (including Arkansas-made beer) and music by Charlotte Taylor and Matt Stone. 2nd Friday jazz trio

Food poisoning that almost wipes out a convent spurs the survivors to put on a musical fundraiser as the Ozark Arts Council and the Theatre Company of the Ozarks stage Dan Goggin's musical Nunsense, 7 p.m. Saturday and March 17 and 2 p.m. Sunday and March 18 at the Lyric Theater, 113 W. Violin-piano duo

The Kobayashi/Gray Duo -- Laura Kobayashi, violin, and Susan Keith Gray, piano -- performs at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Ritz Civic Center, 306 W. Historic walk

Singer competition

Fifteen young singers from colleges and universities across the country, finalists in the the Kristin Lewis Foundation's 2018 Vocal Scholarship Auditions, for singers who demonstrate the greatest potential for careers in opera performance, will perform, competing for five financial scholarships, in the Finals Concert, 3 p.m. Sunday, Center for Humanities and Arts, University of Arkansas-Pulaski Technical College main campus, 3000 W. Scenic Drive, North Little Rock. The top recipient receives an intensive one-week, all-expense-paid trip to Vienna for voice lessons, vocal coaching with collaborative pianists from the Vienna State Opera and acting and language/diction lessons.
