Over the course of his career as a writer, chef, TV personality and teacher, Andrew Zimmern has eaten some pretty awful-sounding things. In Thailand it was bamboo rat and cow placenta. In India it was dung beetles. And in Iceland he dined on fermented sheep's head and fermented sleeper sharks. Well, you get the picture.

On Tuesday, Zimmern's new 18-episode Travel Channel series, The Zimmern List, premieres with back-to-back episodes at 8 and 8:30 p.m. But thankfully, there should be no beetles of any kind in this offering.

The well-traveled food explorer will be sharing his personal recommendations on the food and places where he most loves to eat. In the premiere episode Zimmern spotlights Los Angeles offerings such as Thai food, fancy toast, hot pastrami sandwiches at Langer's Deli and a personal twist on Middle Eastern fare at Kismet.

Episode 2 features a trip to Austin, Texas, to sample barbecue brisket and Mexican food. He also visits a food trailer park where he tries a poke bowl and chilaquiles, before a final stop at the legendary Stubb's Bar-B-Q.
