Where I live: After living in the country for far too long, my wife, Carly Cate, and I decided to move into the People's Republic of Hillcrest. Walkability was a huge factor. Carly can walk to her Zumba classes, and I can take one of my dogs to breakfast at Leo's. Great farmers market, Kroger, etc. I have entire days where I do not have to endure the stress of car culture, and that makes me very happy. Plus, on any typical day, strolling through Hillcrest is like stumbling into the Eukanuba Dog Show.

Occupation: I am a professor of English at Henderson State University; my classes are all half-online, so I only have to drive to Arkadelphia three days a week. Vocationally, I am a poet with four books out and a singer-songwriter.

My favorite space is our living room. The living room has a lot of natural light, along with track lighting, bookshelves, and a gas fireplace, so it is just a comfortable place to read, listen to music and watch television. We try to keep it orderly, but doggy feng shui clearly dictates that the floor must be littered with toys at all times. And who are we to challenge the wisdom of the ancients?

What would you do to improve the space if you could? Two things (both for space-saving purposes): 1) built-in wireless speakers for the record player and SiriusXM box and 2) built-in storage benches beneath the windows (like you might see in a Frank Lloyd Wright house).
