Work on U.S. 70 to impede traffic

Work on a $78.5 million project to widen U.S. 70 from Benton to Hot Springs will require lane closings on a section of the highway through Friday in Garland and Saline counties, the Arkansas Department of Transportation said.

Crews will reduce traffic to one lane between the Tenmile Creek bridge in Saline County and the Cedar Creek bridge in Garland County to adjust pavement markings. Eastbound and westbound lanes will alternately be closed from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, weather permitting.

The new pavement markings will eliminate passing lanes in the area until the asphalt paving is complete by the middle of 2018.
