Acansa appreciation

Festival founder Charlotte Gadberry honored at ceremony

Charlotte Gadberry, the founder of the Acansa festival in Little Rock, was honored March 16 as the 2018 Governor's Arts Award winner Patron of the Year.

Acansa -- one of the early spellings of Arkansas -- is a visual and performing arts festival. The inaugural festival was in 2014. This year's festival is Sept. 18-23.

The March 16 event included a wine and cheese reception and performances by Praeclara, a performing arts organization sponsored by Second Presbyterian Church of Little Rock; and singer/performers Traci Bair and John Greico. The night ended with a champagne and dessert reception. It was held at the Center for Humanities and Arts and the University of Arkansas Pulaski Technical College in North Little Rock.

Linda and Gordon Newbern were honorary chairs of the event. Funds raised during the event will go toward the inaugural Acansa spring break arts camps in Little Rock and North Little Rock.
