Ballet's lecture series shares history of dance and music

Ballet Arkansas Artistic Director Michael Fothergill presented "Traditional Movement and the Origins of Classical Dance" on March 15 in the Arkansas Art Center's lecture hall. The talk, part of the arts center's new lecture series, Art and Motion of Music, gives the audience a chance to learn the history of different types of dance and music.

The event started with a wine reception in the lower lobby followed by the lecture about the origins of traditional European dance and how it evolved into classical ballet. The program included a display of several dance costumes and a demonstration by Ballet Arkansas' Lynsie Ogden, a dancer who has been with the company for three seasons.

The next Art and Motion of Music is April 12 and the lecture, also by Fothergill, is titled, "The Birth of Contemporary Dance in America."
