Where I live: My husband, David Jukes, and I live in a 1921 craftsman bungalow in Little Rock's Capitol View neighborhood, with the state Capitol dome directly to the east. We bought the house from the original owners in 2004 and it was mostly unchanged cosmetically since its construction. Stifft Station/Capitol View has been our neighborhood of choice since the early 1980s. This area was and still is a diverse community where artists, musicians and creatives can afford to live and has a quality of inclusion we like.

Occupation: I am an artist and the Art Department Chair and painting professor at Henderson State University.

My Favorite Space is: My studio is in our attic and is the perfect place for me to make art. The original family built the very steep stairs in the hall closet that makes for an interesting introduction to the space. We had five sun tubes installed in the studio so it's flooded with natural sun and moonlight. The windows on the side walls can be entirely removed and with a six bladed attic fan you can remove any fumes and bring in cool air in seconds. It's a great space to be alone and work. It has the best view of my neighborhood.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: I would raise the roof and add even more light and head space.
