Much ado about nada

This whole mess about the White House Correspondents Dinner is just nuts. The comedian was hired to do a job and she did it, and the media wasn't immune. So the president didn't go again. Did we not already know he has thin skin?

Stick to its purpose

You want my take on the White House Correspondents Dinner? Leave it alone.

It should stick to its avowed purpose of celebrating the First Amendment, handing out awards and journalism scholarships, and being a night of fun and entertainment.

This year's choice of comedian was unfortunate. She was not very funny, and was too close to porn for my taste. Also, she dressed a bit like a hooker.

But then you had what seemed to me like an unusually large number in the audience who were not professional journalists and were not there for entertainment. For instance, Sarah Sanders, with a large chip on her shoulder. She runs an office of propaganda, not journalism. No way are you going to please the ones who came there to find fault. Look at the show again. I could count several who are anti-First Amendment, in my opinion.

Sitting out here in the hills of north-northwest Arkansas, I think of the famous words of Dan Rather: "The camera never blinks." I believe professional journalists should always keep this in mind.

I believe the anti-First Amendment people would like nothing better than to be able to force the White House Correspondents and other such organizations to abandon the avowed goals of truth, ethics, morality and justice. If it were possible to get rid of the First Amendment, especially freedom of the press, then there could be the dictator that some so passionately want.

That's my take.

Give it up already ...

Will Democrats ever give up the Trump-bashing? Hillary did not win. Get with the program. Make America great again. And as some have indicated, it has not been for a while.

Great things are happening already; you are too blinded by hate to see it. Get over yourselves already.

Fools in White House

Trump's team is Junior League from the git-go. And now we have an aide who says about John McCain, "he's dying anyway ...". And the "chief of staff" says nothing. I think this "aide" should have been fired before the end of the day.

How so totally disgusting. John McCain is more of a man, an American, than any of these fools.

Injects reason, sanity

This is in reference to David Hargis' guest column published Friday. I am also a practicing attorney, and finally someone has injected some reason and sanity into this issue involving the state judiciary. Thank you.

Could he be correct?

What if ... his inaugural crowd was the largest ever. Between 3 and 5 million illegal votes caused him to lose the popular vote. Federal District Judge Gonzalo Curiel is prejudiced against him because he's a "Mexican." He has tapes of his private dinner with then-FBI Director James Comey. Barack Obama was born in Kenya.

The Russian investigation and accusations of Trump campaign operatives colluding with Russians are all fake news and a total witch-hunt. Russian cyber criminals did not favor his presidential bid and thus had no effect on the 2016 presidential election.

His bragging about groping women is fake news, totally fake, made-up news. The more than a dozen women who have gone public accusing him of sexual abuse are all liars.

Some neo-Nazis are good people. Obama had his wires tapped in Trump Tower before the election. NATO's obsolete because it doesn't cover terrorism. We have the highest taxes in the world. We have trade deficits with almost everybody. Illegal aliens from Mexico are pouring over the border in record numbers. The behavior of FBI agents is reminiscent of Nazi Germany. Michael Cohen will never flip.

This is a truncated list. Obviously. It represents about 1/100th of the total number of documented lies T-Rump has told since becoming our 45th president.

T-Rump is similar to the rest of us except he's been spared the benefits of evolution. If you've ever wondered what it's like being unencumbered with knowledge, decency, humility, discernment, civility, empathy and truth-telling, well ... wonder no more.

Denial is not an option. We're all witnesses.

Deserving of support

Re "Hold the presses": Bravo, editorial writers, and thank you, Mr. Hussman.

No, I don't always agree with you, but that's not the point of reading the paper. I don't always agree with my former self either as the years go by ... because I read the paper, listen to what others have to say, ask questions, think.

Information should not be obscured or clouded.

Let's always push for quality, and all of us try a little harder for a greater truth than one side of the story can tell.

My grandfather worked years ago to ensure that a certain local paper in Little Rock came out every evening, except Sunday, when it was delivered in the morning, and I'm proud of his effort.

You deserve our support.

Wait, did he forget?

I was stunned--stunned--to read John Brummett's cookie-cutter column and too-soon-to-be-believed endorsement of Clarke Tucker's candidacy for the Democratic nomination for Arkansas' 2nd Congressional District without his mentioning, not one time, that the boy is an alumnus of Harvard University.

To be sure, there was plenty of gushing, but nary a word about Harvard, or even the Ivy League. I was like "wha?"
