Police: Arkansan arrested in burglary try that left accomplice dead; she met resident through dating app

An Arkansas woman faces a manslaughter charge in an attempted burglary that left her accomplice dead Monday morning, authorities say.

According to the Springdale Police Department, a 29-year-old man called police shortly before 7 a.m. to report a burglary at his apartment in the 4500 block of Greens Drive.

Two people, later identified as Jalen Tims and Kaili Brooke Cogdill, both 21, kicked in the door and entered the home, prompting the man to fire a handgun he was armed with, a news release states.

Tims was shot in the chest and suffered fatal injuries, police said. Cogdill fled but was taken into custody about 5:45 p.m. Monday, according to police.

After she was located and arrested in Rogers, Cogdill said that she and Tims intended to steal property from the apartment, according to the police report. She said she did not know Tims was shot until she saw blood at the top of the stairway and down the stairs, then found him collapsed in the yard and bleeding.

She said she tried to get Tims into the car but could not get him up. He then told her to leave, so she did, she told police.

Investigators reportedly determined that Cogdill and the resident were acquaintances who had met through an online dating app.

Cogdill is also accused of identifying herself as her sister after a reported shoplifting at a Walmart in August, swindling a victim out of $130 in April, and participating in two residential burglaries at Keystone Crossing Apartments in Springdale on May 2, police said.

Tims was also a suspect in the May 2 break-ins, along with 27-year-old Dandre Douresseau, who is charged with two counts of burglary, police reports show.

As of Tuesday morning, Cogdill was being held at the Benton County jail. She is charged with manslaughter, non-financial identity fraud, theft of property by deception and three counts of residential burglary, according to the report.

Authorities said they do not anticipate any charges being filed against the resident who fired at Tims, but the case will be forwarded to the Washington County prosecutor's office for review.
