Orchid Society

The Orchid Society of the Ozarks is meeting at 1:30 p.m. May 20 at the Northwest Technical Institute, 709 S. Old Missouri Road in Springdale. Anyone interested in growing orchids is welcome to attend. The objective of the society is to stimulate interest in orchids and their culture. Monthly judging of blooming plants, raffles and occasional public auctions offer affordable orchids and supplies for new and experienced growers.

Ostomates

The Northwest Arkansas Ostomy Support Group will meet at 2 p.m. May 20 at Hope Cancer Resources, 5835 W. Sunset Ave. in Springdale. The subject for the meeting will be a question and answer session.

Retired Teachers

The Washington County Retired Teachers Association will meet at 11:30 a.m.May 21 at the Western Sizzlin' in Springdale. Members need to pay dues of $20 to ensure they will receive a yearbook when meetings begin again in September.

This is also the last chance to bring donations for the association's charities.

The program will be installation of new officers for next year and a memorial service for all Arkansas teachers who passed away since last year.

The Washington County Retired Teachers will host the Area VII ARTA Spring Conference at 1 p.m. May 22 at Butterfield Village Lodge, 1923 Joyce Blvd. in Fayetteville. Program will include Area VII officer elections, pension, legislative and insurance updates, plus food, fun and fellowship. Parking is limited so members are encouraged to carpool.

Every year WCRTA awards scholarships to juniors or seniors at the University of Arkansas who are studying to be teachers. A scholarship of $1,500 is awarded each semester. The applicants need to have graduated from a Washington County high school. Applications are due by May 31.

Garden Club

The Bentonville Garden Club will hold its end-of-year celebration beginning at 11:30 a.m. May 22 at the Jackson House on Main Street in Bentonville.

Pieces 'N Patches

Pieces 'N Patches Quilt group will meet at 10 a.m. May 21 at First Presbyterian Church, 1901 S. 26th St. in Rogers. Carolyn Necessary is doing a workshop featuring an orange peel quilt. Workshop set up is at 9:30 a.m.

The group meets at 12:30 p.m. on the first Monday of each month for programs and at 10 a.m. on the third Monday for workshops. Visitors are welcome.

Civil War

The Northwest Arkansas Civil War Roundtable will meet at 7 p.m. May 24 at the General Store at Shiloh Museum, 118 W. Johnson Ave. in Springdale. The program will be a concert of Civil War military band music presented by the Heritage Brass Band. The program is free.

Stage IV support

Hope Cancer Resources offers a support group for men and women living with any type of stage IV cancer. This month's meeting is from 1 to 2:30 p.m. May 25 at Hope Cancer Resources, 5835 W. Sunset Ave. in Springdale.

Retired Nurses

The Retired Nurses of Northwest Arkansas will meet at noon May 29 at Northwest Medical Center of Bentonville, 3000 Medical Center Parkway, in classroom A. There will be a guest speaker. Optional lunch or beverages will be available in the Allspice Cafe from 11:15 a.m.

New members and guests are welcome. Reservations are preferred.

Cancer

Viviendo con Cáncer is a supportive and educational group for adult Hispanic patients, caregivers, families and friends coping with any type of cancer. All group communication will be in Spanish. The group meets from 5:30 to 7 p.m. May 21 at Hope Cancer Resources, 5835 W. Sunset Ave. in Springdale.
