Uriell, Kim earn All-America honors

University of Arkansas, Fayetteville senior Alana Uriell and junior Dylan Kim were both named second team All-Americans by the Women's Golf Coaches Association on Wednesday.

The selection was the first for Uriell and Kim was a second-team selection at Baylor before transferring to Arkansas. They join Maria Fassi, who was named a first-team selection on Tuesday, giving the Razorbacks 17 WGCA All-America honors in program history.

Uriell, a first-team All-SEC selection, was the only Razorback to shoot a round in the 60s at the NCAA Championship last week and finished with a 71.68 stroke average. Kim, also a first-team All-SEC selection, finished with a 71.56 stroke average and had seven top-10 finishes.

ATU men advance to quarterfinals

The Arkansas Tech University men's team shot a 281 total Wednesday to finish tied for fifth place at 6 under 858 and advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Championships in Muscle Shoals, Ala.

Austin Gean shot a 5 under 67 Wednesday, the team's lowest round of the tournament, to finish tied for seventh place individually at 6 under 210. Gean's total is the best finish at the national championships in program history.

The Wonder Boys' team total is the fourth-lowest score in program history and the lowest in a national championship tournament. Arkansas Tech takes on No. 4 Lynn, which finished in third place with a 16-under 848, in today's quarterfinals.

Haff finalist for national recognition

Arkansas pitcher Mary Haff was named one of three finalists for the NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year on Wednesday.

Haff leads the SEC and ranks second nationally with 29 victories and has helped the Razorbacks reach their first-ever trip to an NCAA Tournament Super Regional. She has 19 complete games, compiling a 1.35 ERA with 246 strikeouts in 207 2/3 innings of work and is holding opposing hitters to a .152 batting average.

Haff joins Oklahoma's Jocelyn Alo and Michigan's Meghan Beaubien as finalists for the honor. The winner will be announced May 29 at the Women's College World Series banquet in Oklahoma City.

ATU's Goodnight named All-American

Arkansas Tech University junior Megan Goodnight was named a first-team All-American on Wednesday by the Division II Collegiate Commissioners Association.

Goodnight, who is the first Golden Suns player in program history to earn first-team honors, led Arkansas Tech with a 17-6 record and a 1.38 ERA while picking up a school record and NCAA Division II-best nine saves. Offensively, she finished the season with a .341 batting average, 10 home runs and 42 RBI. She tied the single-season school record with 18 doubles and was named a first-team All-Great American Conference selection as both a pitcher and utility player.

Arkansas' Salazar advances

Arkansas senior Jose Salazar defeated Oklahoma's Ferran Calvo 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 on Wednesday to advance to the second round of the NCAA Championships in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Salazar, ranked No. 18 nationally, will face California's Billy Griffith in today's second-round match. The doubles team of juniors Oscar Mesquida and Adam Sanjurjo also begins play today against Christian Langmo and Adria Soriano Barrera from the University of Miami.
