Saturday Night Live cast member Pete Davidson apologized for mocking the appearance of a veteran who lost an eye in Afghanistan, telling Lt. Cmdr. Dan Crenshaw, now a congressman-elect from Texas, that he "deserves all the respect in the world." During a "Weekend Update" segment on the show's Nov. 3 episode, Davidson riffed on the midterm elections and presented a photo of Crenshaw wearing an eyepatch. "You may be surprised to hear he's a congressional candidate from Texas and not a hit-man in a porno movie," the comedian joked. "I'm sorry, I know he lost his eye in war, or whatever." The joke quickly drew criticism from both sides of the political aisle. On Saturday night, the comedian made another appearance on "Weekend Update," saying, "I made a joke about Lt. Cmdr. Dan Crenshaw, and on behalf of the show and myself, I apologize." Crenshaw then joined Davidson on camera. The Navy SEAL, a Republican who won a House seat in Tuesday's elections, roasted Davidson but then offered a call for unity. "But, seriously, there's a lot of lessons to learn here," Crenshaw said. "Not just that the left and right can still agree on some things but also this: Americans can forgive one another. We can remember what brings us together as a country." He encouraged Americans to connect with veterans by telling them, "Never forget," instead of just saying, "Thanks for your service." "When you say 'never forget' to a veteran, you are implying that, as an American, you are in it with them," he said. "And never forget those we lost on 9/11 -- heroes like Pete's father," a firefighter who died in the World Trade Center during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. "So I'll just say, Pete? Never forget," Crenshaw said. "Never forget," Davidson replied.

The Hawaiian-born singer announced Sunday that he has donated money for the food to the Salvation Army's Hawaiian and Pacific Islands Division, which hosts an annual Thanksgiving meal program to help those in need. Mars was to perform the final show of his 200-date tour at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu on Sunday. The performer's tour is in support of his multiplatinum 2016 album 24K Magic. It won six Grammy Awards earlier this year, including album, song and record of the year. The album includes the hits "That's What I Like," "Finesse" and "24K Magic."
