Harding Academy scored on a 6-yard pass at the 10-minute mark.

The win avenged two previous losses to Harding Academy in the playoffs in the past six seasons.

Junction City 50, Mountainburg 14

The Dragons struck early and often, capping four first-half scoring drives in under four play in the second round of the 2A playoffs.

Junction City (9-2) will advance to the quarterfinals for a showdown against Des Arc next week. Mountainburg (8-3) lost for just the second time in its last nine games.

Dhante Gibson, who had 95 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries, opened the scoring with a 2-yard run to cap a 60-yard scoring drive in seven plays with Jakiron Cook's two-point conversion making it 8-0.

It would be Junction City's longest scoring march of the half.

On the ensuing possession, Mountainburg drove to Junction City's 4, but was turned away after Jesse Quick was stopped for a 2-yard loss on fourth-and-goal from the 7.

On Junction City's first offensive play of the next series, it padded its lead with a big play from its passing attack, as Brady Hutcheson threw a 91-yard touchdown pass for Kevontae Haynes with Cook's two-point conversion pushing the lead to 16-0.

Mountainburg got on the scoreboard with Ethan Gregory throwing a 6-yard touchdown pass to Austin Taylor to finish off an 84-yard scoring drive with 1:33 left in the half, but Junction City needed just 16 seconds to answer.

STATE

Class 6A

Benton 38, Jonesboro 37

With his starting sophomore quarterback banged up late, Benton coach Brad Harris turned to a pair of steady backups to help the Panthers pull off an astonishing come-from-behind victory.

Junior utility player Gavin Wells found Michael Allison for an 8-yard touchdown with 12.2 seconds left in the game as Benton battled back from a 12-point, fourth-quarter deficit and overcame a late Hail Mary score.

Allison's touchdown, set up after defensive back Kelby Caffery snagged his third interception of the game, capped a 22-point fourth quarter for Benton (9-2), which advanced to the semifinals for the third time in the past four years. The Panthers will travel to West Memphis next week for a spot in the state title game, but they had to sweat out some tense moments late to do so.

Cross Jumper was 16 of 33 for 243 yards with 4 touchdowns and 3 interceptions for Jonesboro (7-5), which used a fast-pace tempo to establish its double-digit lead in the second half. Jumper also added 71 yards on the ground, including an 8-yard touchdown. Lutes finished with 7 catches for 105 yards and 3 scores while Albert George carried 19 times for 120 yards.

Pulaski Academy outgained McClellan 471-137 and forced two turnovers to earn its ninth consecutive victory in what was a rematch of last year's Class 5A state championship game won by the Bruins 37-36.

Junior quarterback Braden Bratcher completed 20 of 29 passes for 331 yards and 5 touchdowns and to go with 1 interception to lead the Bruins. He also had a 58-yard touchdown run.

The Senators (10-2) had a 42-0 lead at the half en route to the victory. Hamburg (8-4) scored on four of its five second-half possessions to make the score more respectable.

Hamburg's Derrick Webb fumbled on the Lions' first play from scrimmage. The miscue, recovered by Davis Wofford, led to a three-yard touchdown from Mekel Kentle. The Lions' D.J. Johnson tried to get outside on their second offensive play but fumbled. Caleb Bridges recovered and Tyler Jones ran it in from seven yards, putting the Senators up 14-0 with 10:07 left in the opening quarter.

Arkadelphia 41, Warren 14

In a rematch of last year's Class 4A state title game won by the Badgers, Arkadelphia cruised to a victory in the second round of the Class 4A state playoffs at Jim Hurley Jr. Stadium.

The Badgers (7-5) held Warren (9-2) to 77 yards in the first half while rolling to a 41-0 halftime lead. Zion Hatley rushed for 169 yards on 20 carries and 3 touchdowns in the first half.

Class 3A

Camden Harmony Grove 47, Glen Rose 28

When Camden Harmony Grove needed a big play, there was junior Damion Daniel.

Daniel caught a couple of touchdown passes and had a big interception in the fourth quarter as the Hornets stayed alive in the Class 3A playoffs.

Daniel grabbed touchdown receptions of 59 and 57 yards as the Hornets (9-3) raced to a 27-14 halftime lead, but it was his interception with five minutes remaining that clinched the victory when his team held a 40-28 edge. Daniel returned the interception 35 yards, which led to junior Xalon Falls grabbing a 28-yard scoring pass from Gannon Bearden with 3:24 left to set the final score.

Prescott 45, Clinton 27

One nifty move was all Prescott needed to grab the momentum in Friday's Class 3A state second-round playoff game at Jim Tumlison Field.

Senior wide receiver Cameron Cox pulled down a high pass at the 15 and then outmaneuvered two Yellowjacket defenders into the end zone with 8 seconds left in the first half to send the Curley Wolves on their way.

Cox's touchdown reception was a 34-yarder which broke a 14-14 tie and came on a third-and-7 play. He caught the ball near the right sideline, but when he made a move back toward the middle of the field, he slipped past by the defenders.

Prescott (11-1) will play McGehee in next week's quarterfinals.
