62-year-old woman dies after being hit by car on central Arkansas road, police say

A 62-year-old woman died Monday after being hit by a car in central Arkansas, authorities said.

The collision occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of North First Street in Jacksonville, according to a report from the city's Police Department.

The driver told officers he was traveling south on the road at 35 mph when the pedestrian, identified as Myong McManus of Jacksonville, "ran out in front of him."

The man said he tried to stop but hit the 62-year-old with his Honda Civic, the report states.

Police wrote that witnesses performed CPR on the woman, but medics pronounced her dead at the scene when they arrived.
