Hikes set at river, lake

Hill 'N Dale Hikers will hike Wednesday on the Buffalo River Trail near Ponca. The hike is 5.6 miles with options for shorter hikes.

The group will hike 4.6 miles at Lincoln Lake on Oct. 16. There is an option to add an extra mile.

Team wins Cast Masters finale

Rocky Hopkins and Travis Fox won the Cast Masters end-of-season championship held Sept. 29-30 at Beaver Lake. They had a two-day total of 10 bass weighing 24.81 pounds.

Doug King and Derek Luper placed second with 10 bass at 24.42 pounds. Brian Simco and Chris Simco were third with 10 bass at 22.87 pounds.

Fourth through 10th, all with 10 bass, were: fourth, Curt Clark, Tammy Anderson, 21.91; fifth, Allen Westfall, Jeff Swaffer, 21.26; sixth, Allen Shannon, Warren Edwards, 21.04; seventh, David Louks, Collin Cheatham, 19.9; eighth, Levi Clay, Darren Clay, 19.85; ninth, Taylor Surly, Aaron Gotham, 19.14; 10th, Justin Hoffman, Bill Ramsey, 18.8.

Foundation plans wild game dinner

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Foundation will hold its second annual "Into the Wild" wild game supper and auction at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Springdale Airport, 718 S. Old Missouri Road.

Tickets are $125 or $1,000 for a table. Money raised helps fund the foundation's programs and initiatives for youth. For tickets visit agff.org.

The foundation was established in 1982 as a nonprofit fundraising auxiliary to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission

Groups partner for lake trips

Northwest Arkansas Audubon Society and Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area will host two-hour cruises this fall on the park's pontoon boat to see loons and other birds at Beaver Lake.

Trips are set for Oct. 27, Nov. 3 and Nov. 11. They depart from Rocky Branch Marina at 10 a.m. Experienced birders with Audubon will be on board to help identify birds.

Cost is $10. Register by calling the park visitor center, 479-789-5000.

Snakes topic of program

Dr. Steve Beaupre with the University of Arkansas will give a talk on poisonous snakes of Arkansas at 2 p.m. on Nov. 4 at the Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area visitor center.

Annual fall color tour set

The Ozark-St. Francis National Forests 57th annual Fall Color Tour scheduled is set for Oct. 19.

The tour begins at 9 a.m. from the Newton County courthouse in Jasper and returns at 2:30 p.m. Buses will take the tour group along a scenic route through the Ozark-St. Francis National Forests and the Buffalo National River. The cost is $6 per person. Participants will need to bring snacks or lunch, jacket, camera and comfortable shoes.

Several stops will be made along the tour route, including a lunch stop where hot food and beverages will be available for purchase.
