Shrimp Boil fundraiser assists St. Francis House

The fellowship hall and grounds of Saint Mark's Episcopal Church in Little Rock came alive on a hot Oct. 6 evening for the 14th annual Shrimp Boil, the largest individual fundraiser for St. Francis House.

Partakers were given the choice to dine inside, dine outside or drive through and pick up. On-site diners were given sheets of white paper, which they were to use glossy-side up as meal mats. A small army of fast-moving volunteers -- among a total of 200-plus -- provided table service, bringing pots that each contained a generous supply of shrimp along with sausage, potatoes, corn and a roll and distributing the dinners on the paper mats. Drinks included complimentary water and tea along with libations for sale.

Guests also mingled in the church's garden, where Dave Miller and Rocktown Revival entertained. Vocalist London Jones gave a guest performance.

Since its inception the Shrimp Boil has drawn close to $200,000 for St. Francis House, an Episcopal Church outreach that provides social services, health care and veterans' programs to those in need.
