Bid to disqualify candidate on hold

The city of Little Rock will not take one of the candidates for Ward 2 city director to court, for now.

City Attorney Tom Carpenter said Wednesday that he was preparing a court injunction seeking to disqualify Valerie Tatum from the race, arguing that she did not live in the ward she was running to represent when she filed. City officials had been made aware of the discrepancy by an outside party days earlier.

Thursday afternoon, Carpenter said he would not proceed for the time being because of the opposition of at least one member of the city Board of Directors.

The other Ward 2 candidates are incumbent Ken Richardson, Shalonda Michelle and Rohn Muse.

7 people appointed members of panels

The Little Rock Board of Directors on Tuesday appointed seven people to city boards and commissions.

They are:

• Laura Stanley to the Americans with Disabilities Act Citizens Grievance Committee.

• Robert Richardson to the Community Housing Advisory Board.

• Michael Harvey to the City Beautiful Commission (reappointment).

• Steve Homeyer to the City Beautiful Commission (reappointment).

• Roderick Wells to the Housing Board of Adjustment and Appeals.

• Jerry Bailey to the Racial and Cultural Diversity Commission (at-large member).

• Michal Harris to the Racial and Cultural Diversity Commission (Ward 4 representative).

Candidate forum re-broadcasts set

A forum featuring candidates for Little Rock mayor and Board of Directors is scheduled to run on the city's public access channel, Channel 11, once more before early voting begins Monday.

The forum was hosted by the Coalition of Greater Little Rock Neighborhoods on Oct. 13.

The mayoral candidates' responses to questions on city issues were set for viewing at 1 a.m. today. The five men running for mayor are Baker Kurrus; state Rep. Warwick Sabin, D-Little Rock: Glen Schwarz; Frank Scott Jr.; and Vincent Tolliver.

Eight men -- Ted Adkins, Herbert Broadway, Bryan Frazier, Greg Henderson, Ronnie Jackson, Curtis Johnson, Danny Lewis, Robert Webb -- and incumbent Erma Hendrix are running for the Ward 1 seat. Their responses will air at 9 a.m. today.

The four candidates for Ward 2 are incumbent Ken Richardson, Shalonda Michelle, Rohn Muse and Valerie Tatum. Their responses will air at 1 p.m. today.

The Ward 6 candidates are incumbent Doris Wright, Sandy Becker, Vicki Hatter and Russ Racop. Their responses will air at 5 p.m. today.

Edmond Davis and Robert Williams are challenging Ward 7 City Director B.J. Wyrick for her seat. Their responses will air at 8 p.m. today.

Ward 4 and the three at-large seats are not up for election this year. The election is Nov. 6.

A runoff to select the next Little Rock District criminal judge will also take place Nov. 6. Candidates Margaret "Peggy" Egan and Melanie Martin shared their platforms at the forum. Those were set to air at 4 a.m. Sunday.

The forum segments will air continuously until the election. Lamor Williams, a spokesman for the city, said some will be delayed due to technical difficulties.

All are viewable on the city's YouTube channel, https://www.youtube.com/user/CityLittleRock/videos.
