Traveling exhibit

A traveling exhibit, "Electrify: VSA Emerging Young Artists, Kennedy Center Touring Exhibition," featuring the work of 15 young emerging artists ages 21 to 25 with disabilities, is on display through Dec. 2 in the Small Gallery, Windgate Center of Art and Design, University of Arkansas at Little Rock, 2801 S. University Ave., Little Rock. A reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday in the Windgate Center.

The exhibit -- organized by VSA Visual Arts Program for the Kennedy Center in Washington -- includes work by Trinity Kai, a 2017 UALR graduate born with oculocutaneous albinism, a genetic condition that results in poor vision and oversensitivity to light. Her photograph Insight won the $20,000 grand prize in the Kennedy Center's 2017 VSA Emerging Young Artists Competition. (The program was founded in 1974 as the National Committee -- Arts for the Handicapped. In 1985 the name was changed to Very Special Arts. It became VSA in 2010.)

Admission to the exhibit and the reception are free. Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, 2-5 p.m. Sunday. Call (501) 569-8977 or email becushman@ualr.edu.
