• In 54 of the 75 counties of Arkansas, there are 238,307 dogs and 128,105 sheep and goats, giving the dogs a preponderance of 110,202, according to figures compiled by the State Food Administration from statistics furnished by the county food administrators. The data was gathered by county food administrators with a definite object in view. When the next legislature convenes, State Food Administrator Hamp Williams will ask that a bill be enacted placing a war tax on dogs. This action will be taken with a view to increasing the production of sheep and goats. For months Mr. Williams has received letters from all sections of the state ... contain[ing] interesting data from often irate correspondents, who told of the number of sheep and goats being killed by "worthless curs."

CONWAY -- Two people were killed and a third person wounded in a shooting Sunday night on the University of Central Arkansas campus, police said. Campus police and the Conway Police Department were investigating late Sunday and were not releasing the names of the victims. Lt. Rhonda Swindle, a spokesman for UCA campus police, said she did not know if the two people killed or the wounded person were students. Lori Ross, a spokesman for Conway Regional Medical Center, said all of the victims were men. One died at the scene, and two others were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds about 10 p.m. One of those victims, an 18-year-old, died at the hospital, Ross said. A 19-year-old was treated and released, she said.
