Marty Haggard to perform 'Tribute to My Dad'

Marty Haggard will perform his show, "A Tribute to My Dad, Merle Haggard," at two venues in the state this weekend: at 7 p.m. Friday at the Ouachita Little Theatre in Mena and at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Ritz Civic Center in Blytheville. Admission is the same at both shows: $25 in advance, $30 the day of the show.

Haggard, 60, the oldest son of Merle Haggard, has released six albums, the most recent two being A Tribute to My Dad (2010) and A Tribute to My Dad, Volume Two (2011).

Reckless Kelly, along with The Brooks Hubbard Band, will perform at 8:30 p.m. today at the Rev Room in Little Rock. Admission is $20.

Reckless Kelly, formed in Idaho but now based in Austin, Texas, has released nine albums, the latest of which, Sunset Motel, came out in September 2016.

Bob Schneider, along with The Rios, will perform at 8:30 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $18 in advance; or $20 the day of the show.

Schneider, a Michigan native now based in Austin, has a long musical resume with multiple visits to central Arkansas during his stints in the bands Joe Rockhead, The Ugly Americans and The Scabs. In June he released his latest album, Blood and Bones. Between 1992 and 2017, he has won 55 Austin Music Awards.

RESPECT, a tribute to the late Aretha Franklin, will be held at 10 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $15.

The show will feature members of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra's string and horn sections "accompanying Arkansas' greatest divas," according to the show's promoters.

Len Holton, founder of the Little Rock Folk Club, will perform a rare solo show of his own, at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Hibernia Irish Tavern in Little Rock. Admission is free.

Holton plays guitar, sings his own material and the songs of others, while injecting bits of British humor.

Ashley Davis and Cormac de Barra will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in a Little Rock Folk Club show. Admission is $15, $10 for military (with ID), $8 for students (with ID) and free for accompanied children age 12 and younger.

Davis, who plays guitar, and de Barra, who plays harp, both sing and have extensive credits in the Celtic realm of music. Davis is a native of Kansas who studied at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn., then went on to the University of Limerick and a one-year stint as a soloist with Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance in Las Vegas.

De Barra is a third-generation harp player from Ireland. He has toured and performed with Moya Brennan, the voice of the band, Clannad.

Amy McBryde and the Active Ingredient, will perform at 9 p.m. today at White Water Tavern in Little Rock. Admission is $7.

The Amy Garland Band will perform at 9 p.m. Friday. Admission is $7.

Garland, who moved from Louisiana to Arkansas in 1995, hosts the Backroads radio show Friday evenings on community radio KABF-FM, 88.3. Her band includes Nick Devlin on guitar, Mike Nelson on bass, Jeff Coleman on keyboards, Brad Williams on mandolin, guitar and harmonica and Bart Angel (her husband) on drums.

Louis Jordan movie night will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5. The event will celebrate what would have been Jordan's 110th birthday (on July 8), along with the recent dedication of the Louis Jordan Memorial Highway on U.S. 49.

There will be screenings of Jordan's short film, Caldonia (1945) and a documentary, Is You Is: A Louis Jordan Story (2008).

There will also be live Louis Jordan music by Barbara Raney, Stephen Koch (author of Louis Jordan: Son of Arkansas, Father of R&B, a Jordan biography) and Stephanie Smittle.
