Where I live: River Ridge neighborhood of Little Rock

Occupation: communications consultant

My favorite space is: my breakfast room.

Why? This room is really the heart of my house. The centerpiece is a Texas pine table that used to be in my grandmother's breakfast room in Dallas. My mom, her parents and siblings used to eat meals there, but the real purpose of the table was to facilitate game playing: Card games, board games, tile games, word games, and probably some mind games as well. My brother and I grew up a few miles away from that house and we each earned our seat at the table. A few years ago, my grandmother went into assisted living and I flew to Texas, rented a U-Haul, and drove it back to Little Rock where my husband, Grant, restored it. Now it's my family table.

I also love this wall and the art. It's the only internal brick wall in the house. Grant painted it and decorated the wall with original photos taken by my Aunt Ingrid, photos by Democrat-Gazette photographer John Sykes, a few turtle shells (found empty during hikes), an old-school Minnie Mouse and a ruler.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: Refinish the floors. Turns out the chairs, cool as they are, scratch the finish.
