Arline Jackson

Where I live: A century-old bungalow in the historic Park Hill neighborhood, North Little Rock

Occupation: Medical aesthetician; owner and operator of Arline's Individuality in Skin Care (with most of my customers having come to me for 30 years); former fashion industry representative, real-estate seller and political campaign worker; member of the Arkansas Master Gardener Program.

My favorite space is: my formal living area, part of an open floor plan that also includes my dining room.

Why? The living area is small, but very comfortable. It is quiet, so I can read and do needlework during the early morning or late evening hours. I enjoy sitting by the fireplace, having hot tea, during cold weather. This is the spot for some of my favorite art from Europe as well as local art and my own oil paintings. It's also an area decorated with my antiques, which all have a special history and which were given to me by very special friends and passed down by family. I love to entertain family and friends here. Favorite guests have included Muskie Harris, who has shared stories from his Razorbacks football days; three judges and their wives, discussing Arkansas law; and Lee Standing Bear Moore, storyteller for the Manatake American Indian Council.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: install more large windows so I can let in more natural light.
