Overpass work set to close intersection in Jonesboro

Work on a new $35.2 million overpass in Jonesboro will require closing an intersection in the vicinity of the project and detouring traffic for about three weeks beginning Monday, the Arkansas Department of Transportation said.

The intersection of Nettleton Avenue, which also is called U.S. 63B, and Clark Street -- which is just south of East Highland Drive, also called Arkansas 18, in southeast Jonesboro -- will be closed through mid-May, weather permitting.

The recommended detour route includes Willow Road and Manila, Clark and Thorn streets, the department said.

Between 6,200 vehicles and 8,400 vehicles travel that section of Nettleton Avenue daily, according to department data.

The work is associated with building an overpass for East Highland to cross the BNSF Railway crossing. The contract was awarded to Capital Paving and Construction LLC of Columbia, Mo., in October 2018.
