HAPPY RETURNS

Trainer Valorie Lund is back at Oaklawn and so is Mr. Jagermeister, who is the 5-2 second choice in the program for today’s eighth race.

Mr. Jagermeister, a 4-year-old Minnesota-bred son of Atta Boy Roy, was the 2018 Centerbury Park Horse of the Meet after winning four stakes races. Mr. Jagermeister flourished at the suburban Minneapolis track after finishing a distant second to Mitole in the Bachelor Stakes last April at Oaklawn. Lund recently shipped six horses, led by Mr. Jagermeister, to Oaklawn as her stable shifts from Turf Paradise in Phoenix to Canterbury for the summer.

“He loves this racetrack,” Lund said. “I can tell training over it. In his last start, he came back sick, so we kind of threw that one out. But he’s training exceptionally well. He breezed, just in hand, the other day and breezed very fast.”

Mr. Jagermeister, Lund’s fourth scheduled Oaklawn starter, is scheduled to break from post 3 under Leandro Goncalves.

“This race is going to tell us a lot, and then we’ll decide a summer campaign for him,” Lund said. “He’s an awfully nice horse. Even though it’s a cakewalk for him in Minnesota, I think he’s probably a little better than that, so I think he’ll show up in some decent races this summer.”

UNDER CONSIDERATION

Remembering Rita is under consideration for the inaugural Oaklawn Mile on May 3, trainer Doug Anderson of Hot Springs said Wednesday. Remembering Rita was part of a blanket finish in his last start, beaten by just three-quarters of a length to finish fourth April 13 in the Oaklawn Handicap.

Anderson said Remembering Rita emerged from the Oaklawn Handicap in good shape physically, adding he will monitor the horse’s training the next few days before making a decision regarding the Oaklawn Mile. Nominations to the race closed Wednesday, and post positions will be drawn Saturday.

Information for this report was provided by the Oaklawn media department.
