Chad Morris

• Another good day of practice, and looking forward to the scrimmage on Wednesday.

• Looking for consistency out of the starting quarterback. I'm not naming one. We'll have guys who will be limited in practice tomorrow and some guys who will do some moving around. We feel like we're getting close to setting our depth chart. We're close in a lot of areas.

• On Portland State: You always build prep on Week 1 opponent into camp. There were several periods today that had some game-week type things in it.

• I thought there were some good things out of practice today. Guys have given great effort, they're working their tails off. Tomorrow is going to be a big day for us.

• Right guard: Shane Clenin is doing good. He's being pushed. Ricky Stromberg has gotten a lot of right guard work and he's also slid in at center. He's done some really good things. Really excited about him and where he is.

• Connor Limpert: He's had a really good camp. Him coming back, he's a weapon for us. He's had a good camp.

• Still won't be able to go in the stadium on Wednesday. We'll be in there on Saturday.

• Devwah Whaley: He's had a really good camp. He did not take part in the live work to open today's practice. He's fine.

• Today was a good, hot day. The guys responded to the heat yesterday, and I'm proud of the way they've handled things. They're working.

• Receivers: We're hoping to get Trey Knox back soon. Don't know if he'll play in the scrimmage. He's sick again today. Treylon Burks, Mike Woods, De'Vion Warren are doing things you'd expect them to do. All the guys are getting reps and they're spelling each other when one needs a breather.

• Always a fine line in working the guys and keeping them fresh. This week we allowed them to sleep in a little bit more. Some of the meetings this week will be cut short to get guys rest. They're in a grind. We've done things throughout the course of camp to give them a bit of a break. We spend a lot of time in recovery, yoga, etc.

• Punter: Don't have a starter named yet. Sam Loy has been a great addition. Reid Bauer and Loy's competition has been good. Loy has some pop in his kicks.

• Ben Hicks will probably start with the first-team offense tomorrow, but other guys will get in there, too.

• Myron Cunningham is really athletic. We knew if something happened to Colton Jackson then he'd slide in at left tackle.

• Up front, TJ Smith and Sosa Agim have been disruptive. We have a pretty good idea who our top guys are, but you win in this league with the guys behind them. Collin Clay has had a good camp, as has Marcus Miller. Freshmen have kind of hit a wall, but older guys are pushing them. Linebacker has been solid all camp. We've got to create the depth, and that's what we're trying to do.

• On Jordan Silver, the team's first-team long snapper: No one knows who he is until a ball sails over the punter. He's dedicated himself since January to be the best he can be. I'm excited about him. As long as he does his job then no one knows who he is.

• QB knowledge of the offense: Been pleased with how Starkel has grasped the offense since he got here. Thought it might hold him back a little, but that's not the case. I think he's progressed really well. There's some times where you can tell Ben has been in the offense longer.
