Suspect is arrested in food-call holdups

A Little Rock man was arrested last week in the holdups of food-delivery drivers in December, according to court documents released Tuesday.

On Dec. 18, a Jimmy John's order was called in for delivery to 501 Napa Valley Drive, an arrest affidavit said. When the driver got there, a man held him at gunpoint, pilfered the driver's pockets and left the food sitting on the ground, the affidavit said.

Three hours later, a driver was sent to 1004 Scott St., the affidavit said. The driver later told police that a man took his money but left the food behind.

Police traced both Jimmy John's calls to the cellphone of JaKarie Jamal Woodley, 22, the affidavit said. Officers during the investigation found that Woodley was a former Jimmy John's employee.

Woodley posted a $10,000 bond on Friday and was released from the Pulaski County jail, court documents show.

Police use tip, find hit-and-run suspect

An anonymous tip led police to arrest the Little Rock driver who struck and seriously injured a man before leaving him in the roadway, an affidavit for a warrant of arrest released Monday said.

On July 17, Little Rock police responded to a wreck near 820 S. Rodney Parham Road, where a man had been hit by a car, the affidavit said. The man's neck, arm and leg were broken.

An anonymous tip submitted the next day identified Mitchell M. Broughton Jr., 24, as the driver, though the tipster initially gave police the wrong last name, according to the affidavit. Broughton told police he knew he'd struck something on Rodney Parham that night but said he got out of the vehicle and did not see anything.

Broughton also initially told police that he had not consumed any alcohol that night while at the Twin Peaks restaurant, but surveillance footage and a waitress's testimony showed him taking at least three shots of tequila, the affidavit said.

Officers arrested Broughton on Aug. 12 on charges of leaving the scene of an accident, second-degree battery, careless or prohibited driving and tampering with physical evidence, a report said.

Broughton paid a $60,000 bond and was released the next day, court documents show.

Gun pulled, threats made, woman says

A Jacksonville man was arrested by police Monday evening on charges of aggravated assault and terroristic threatening, both felonies, after a woman said he threatened to kill her and her child, according to a report.

The report said the woman told police that she was visiting with a friend in the parking lot of Willow Bend Apartments at 300 Marshall Road in Jacksonville when 25-year-old Demerio Laron Williams pulled up in his car.

According to the report, the woman told police that Williams got out of the car and placed something into an orange bag, after which she heard what sounded like a gun being cocked. She said Williams then pointed the bag at her face and said, "Didn't I tell you not to come out here anymore," the report said. Then she said he told her "you have 10 seconds to leave before I shoot you."

The report said the woman told police she then got out her phone to call police and that she told Williams she was calling the police, at which time she said Williams told her if she called police, "I'll kill you and your baby."

When police arrived, the report said that they said they found about 9 grams of suspected marijuana in Williams' pants pocket.

Williams was not listed in the Pulaski County jail roster as of Tuesday evening.

Fistfight in LR park ends with gunfire

A Maumelle man was arrested earlier this month, accused of taking a gun to a fistfight, according to court documents released Monday.

An arrest affidavit said that on Aug. 5, two women who apparently were ex-girlfriends of Clevlis Abernathy decided to square off. The two women, along with Abernathy and several of their friends, met late that evening at Boyle Park at 3101 Boyle Park Road in Little Rock, the affidavit said.

The two women began fighting, but a third woman pulled out pepper spray to help one of them, the report said. Witnesses said Abernathy, 23, shot that woman in the leg, thigh, buttocks and right hand, according to the affidavit. Several bullets also struck a vehicle. A friend drove the injured woman to the hospital and Little Rock police took several of the people into custody.

One person took cellphone video that matched the witnesses' accounts, the affidavit said. Officers arrested Abernathy on charges of first-degree battery and committing a terroristic act on Aug. 6.

Abernathy posted a $175,000 bail Friday and plead not guilty in his first hearing, court records show.
