SOUTHLAND MEN

HOUSTON BAPTIST 75, CENTRAL ARKANSAS 71

The University of Central Arkansas (10-15, 5-7 Southland Conference) lost its fifth consecutive game, falling to Houston Baptist (8-14, 4-7) at the Farris Center in Conway.

UCA started 5-2 in the Southland Conference, but has not won since Jan. 23 at home against New Orleans.

Thatch Unruh had a game-high 22 points for the Bears. Hayden Koval finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 8 blocked shots. Jared Chatham added 13 points and eight rebounds.

Houston Baptist was led by Ty Dalton, who had 21 points and 10 rebounds. Ian DuBose scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Braxton Bonds had 11 points.

The Bears trailed 41-31 at halftime.

Unruh converted a three-point play with 1:40 left to cut the lead to 71-69. With 1:00 remaining, Unruh hit two free throws to tie the game at 71-71.

Houston Baptist took a 74-71 lead with 34 seconds remaining on DuBose's three-pointer. The Bears had an opportunity to pull closer or tie the game, but Unruh's jumper fell short. DuBose made one of two free throws with 14 seconds left to set the final score.

SOUTHLAND WOMEN

CENTRAL ARKANSAS 77, HOUSTON BAPTIST 58

Kamry Orr finished with 18 points, 11 assists, 8 rebounds and 5 steals to lead the University of Central Arkansas (10-12, 5-7 Southland Conference) to a victory over Houston Baptist (7-14, 2-9) at Sharp Gym in Houston.

The Sugar Bears won their third consecutive game, while the Huskies have lost three in a row.

Alana Canady scored 16 points for UCA. Alexyse Thomas had 12 points, and Alanie Fisher added 11 points.

UCA shot 50.9 percent (28 of 55) from the floor and forced 17 turnovers.

Megan Valdez-Crader led Houston Baptist with 15 points. Amanda Johnson scored 11 points.

UCA used a 24-10 second quarter to take a 40-26 lead at halftime. But Houston Baptist pulled within 51-46 at the end of the third quarter.

The Sugar Bears began the fourth quarter on a 10-0 run, which included three-pointers from Maddie Goodner and Antonija Bozic, to extend their lead to 61-46 with 7:24 remaining.
