ARKANSAS STATE 83,

Ty Cockfield and Marquis Eaton combined for 53 points, and the Red Wolves snapped a three-game losing streak with an upset of Texas-Arlington at First National Bank Arena in Jonesboro.

Cockfield was 7 of 11 from the floor and 11 of 12 from the free-throw line to account for his game-high 27 points, which was the 17th time this season he has topped the 20-point mark. Eaton was 9 of 12 from the floor, 4 of 5 on three-pointers and 4 of 7 from the line for his season-best 26 points.

Arkansas State (11-15, 5-8 Sun Belt) was 27 of 52 (51.9 percent) from the floor while Texas-Arlington (12-14, 8-5) was 26 of 63 (41.3 percent).

The Red Wolves led 41-34 at the half and never trailed in the second half. Texas-Arlington pulled to within 81-79 when Tiandre Jackson-Young hit a layup with :03 remaining, but Cockfield sealed the victory with two free throws with :02 to play.

Grantham Gillard added 12 points for the Red Wolves. Tristin Walley came off the bench to lead Arkansas State in rebounding with five.

Texas-Arlington's Brian Warren led his team with 21 points and five assists. Reserve freshman David Azore added 14 points.

SWAC MEN

UAPB 61, SOUTHERN 45

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff won its third in a row after a 1-5 stretch to move within a game of Alabama State for third place in the conference with the victory over Southern in Pine Bluff.

UAPB led 31-28 early in the second half before senior guard Martaveous McKnight's jumper with 13:40 left keyed a 10-2 run that gave the Golden Lions (10-15, 7-5 SWAC) a 41-30 cushion. The Jaguars closed within five on a pair of occasions over the next eight minutes, the latter coming with 5:44 to go. A bucket from senior center Alex Ennis trimmed UAPB's lead to 43-38, but a three-pointer from senior guard Charles Jackson 27 seconds later ended the Jaguars' threat.

McKnight scored 22 points to lead the Golden Lions, who also got 16 points from sophomore forward Shaun Doss. Doss also led the team in rebounds with six and added two steals.

Senior forward Sidney Umude had 16 points and five rebounds for Southern (4-21, 3-9), which has lost five of its past six games.

Arkansas State University's comeback attempt fell short in a loss to the Mavericks at the College Park Center in Arlington, Texas.

Jireh Washington and Akasha Westbrook each scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Arkansas State, which trailed Texas-Arlington 57-44 to start the fourth quarter.

The Red Wolves (9-15, 4-9) got as close as 63-62 with 44 seconds to play after Morgan Wallace hit two free throws, but Texas-Arlington's Lauren Billie responded with a three-pointer at the 19-second mark.

Arkansas State trailed 35-25 at the half.

Cierra Johnson finished with a game-high 16 points and five assists for the Mavericks (19-6, 11-3).

Peyton Martin added 10 points, and Wallace led the Red Wolves in steals with four.

Arkansas State outrebounded Texas-Arlington 42-34.

TEXAS STATE 50,

UALR 48

Texas State rallied in a back-and-forth fourth quarter to earn the victory over the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in San Marcos, Texas.

With UALR down 38-34 going into the fourth quarter, Tori Lasker sank a three-pointer before Texas State increased its lead on a pair of free throws by Bailey Holle. Ronjanae DeGray knocked down a catch-and-shoot jumper from 15 feet, then Terrion Moore made a layup to give the Trojans a one-point lead. After a layup by DeGray, Toshua Leavitt hit a three-pointer for Texas State to tie it at 43-43.

UALR retook the lead on Lasker's third three-pointer and DeGray's jumper. After a three-pointer by Brooke Holle and a layup by Jazza Johns evened the score at 48-48, Brooke Holle and Leavitt made free throws to give the Bobcats (11-14, 6-7) the win.

DeGray went 8 of 16 from the floor to score 18 points to lead the Trojans (15-9, 11-2). Lasker finished with nine points, and Moore and Raeyana DeGray each scored six points.

Bailey Holle led Texas State with 13 points, and Brooke Holle and Leavitt each scored 11 points.

SWAC WOMEN

SOUTHERN 56,

UAPB 45

Southern outscored the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff 38-16 in the second half to rally from a 29-18 halftime deficit for the win in Pine Bluff.

Southern went on a 14-0 run in the third quarter to take a 35-32 lead with 4:48 left in the quarter. The teams kept it close the rest of the third, and Southern led 42-38 going into the fourth quarter, where Southern went on an 11-0 run to pull away.

The Jaguars (12-11, 9-3) were 7 of 33 from the floor in the first half and 12 of 25 in the second half, while the Golden Lions (4-15, 1-11) were 10 of 18 in the first half and 4 of 25 in the second half. UALR also was 1 of 7 on three-point attempts in the second half.

Noe'll Taylor scored 12 points to lead the Golden Lions.

Taneara Moore led the Jaguars with 13 points. Alyric Scott had 12 points and Skylar O'Bear added 10 points.
