8 stocks up, 6 down as index gains 1.26

The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, rose 1.26 to 395.78 Tuesday.

Eight stocks climbed, six declined and one was unchanged.

"Rising shares of technology companies pushed major U.S. indexes higher, as optimism about Chinese stimulus was one of the reasons stocks notched their first day of gains in three trading sessions," said Chris Harkins, managing director with Raymond James & Associates in Little Rock.

Total volume for the index was 16.5 million shares.

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
