Little Rock Catholic used the three-pointer to its advantage in the first half, then turned it up a notch against the Fort Smith Southside defense in the second to take a 64-59 home victory Friday night.

The first four Catholic field goals came on three-pointers. The Mavericks (4-13, 0-5) held a 17-16 lead after the first quarter, but the Rockets moved out to a 38-33 advantage at the half thanks to five free throws and three more three-pointers.
Southside trimmed one point off that lead in the third quarter, 55-51, setting the stage for a fourth quarter that saw the Mavericks narrow the Catholic advantage to 61-59 with 1:52 remaining.
The Rockets held Southside to 2 of 6 free throws in the second half.
Charles Daniel, who made 13 of 18 free throws, had a game-high 24 points to lead the Rockets
Taye Gatewood led the Mavericks with 17, while Dalton Thomas had 10.
