Photographers

The Bella Vista Photography Club -- previously known as the Bentonville/Bella Vista Photography Club -- will meet at 8:30 p.m.Jan. 20 at the Bella Vista Arts and Crafts Fair parking lot to shoot the lunar eclipse event.

February's contest is night photography/long exposure, since during this time a lunar eclipse will be occurring.

The club meets at 6 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Guaranty Bank in Jane, Mo. Guests are welcome to attend.

Ostomates

The Northwest Arkansas Ostomy Support Group will meet at 1 p.m. Jan. 20 at Hope Cancer Resources, 5835 W. Sunset Ave. in Springdale, for the educational meeting. There will be a regular meeting beginning at 2 p.m.

Orchids

The Orchid Society of the Ozarks will meet at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 20 at the Northwest Technical Institute, 709 S. Old Missouri Road in Springdale. By tradition there will be a roundtable this month, so bring questions about orchids, orchid culture and problem plants. Also by tradition, the hospitality theme will be chili, chili fixings and chili side dishes. Blooming plants are welcomed for the monthly judging.

The objective of the society is to stimulate interest in orchids and their culture. Monthly raffles for members offer affordable orchids and supplies for new and experienced growers.

The next meeting will be at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 17. The ninth annual "Orchids in the Garden" show and sale, offering hundreds of blooming orchids, will be the first weekend in March at the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks in Fayetteville.

Teachers

The Washington County Retired Teachers Association will meet at 12:15 p.m. Jan. 21 at the Western Sizzlin' in Springdale. Registration begins at 11 a.m. with a buffet lunch at 11:30 a.m.

The program by Susan Young of Shiloh Museum will be "Readin', 'Ritin', & 'Rithmetic: The Early Years of Education in Arkansas." Christine Scott will also recognize members for most years of service in teaching.

Members are encouraged to bring donations to the group's charitable organizations, especially CEO, which is in need of sample sizes of shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes and toothpaste, deodorant, body wash or soap, mouthwash, etc. Baby diapers in various sizes are also needed.

Pieces 'N Patches

Pieces 'N Patches quilt group will meet at 10 a.m. Jan. 21 at First Presbyterian Church, 1901 S. 26th St. in Rogers. Donna Thomas will lead a workshop featuring the "Hunters Star" technique. Purchase of Studio 180's Rapid Fire Hunter's Star Ruler will be necessary to complete the class.

The group meets at 12:30 p.m. on the first Monday of each month for programs and at 10 a.m. on the third Monday for workshops. Snacks will be served on program days, and participants should bring a dish for potluck on workshop days; beverages will be provided. Visitors are welcome.

SUV

The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War will meet at 7 p.m. Jan. 21 at Foghorn's restaurant, 2221 W. Walnut St. in Rogers. If you would like to eat before the meeting, dinner will be at 6 p.m. The Sons of Union Veterans is a fraternal organization honoring those men who fought for the United States during the Civil War.

Cemeteries

The Regional National Cemetery Improvement Corporation meets at 10 a.m. the second Saturday of every month at the American Legion Hut in Fayetteville. The RNCIC's purpose it to secure land acquisitions close to the Fayetteville National Cemetery to ensure the cemetery can continue to receive veterans for burial. Meetings are open to the public.

Calico Cut Ups

The Calico Cut Ups quilt guild will meet at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 28 at Becker Hall in the First United Methodist Church of Bella Vista, 20 Boyce Drive. The meeting will begin with "Stash for Cash," which will provide members an opportunity to sell their excess stash, and participants will be able to buy supplies at bargain prices.

At 1 p.m., Laurie Davis will talk about using photos in quilts and for inspiration, and illustrate her ideas with some of her beautiful, award winning quilts. Following Davis' presentation, Kay Gaudian will talk about the importance of labeling quilts and provide recommendations about what information should be on the label, as well as sharing creative ideas for making and attaching the label to the finished quilt.

The public is invited to this informative program, complete with examples of quilts, and PowerPoint slides illustrating creative ideas. Business meeting will be from 2 to 3 p.m. with show-and-tell by members.

Guests are welcome to attend without paying a fee. Yearly dues are $25.

BC Dems

The Benton County Dems meet at noon Jan. 28 at the Golden Corral, 2506 W. Pleasant Crossing Drive. Come for lunch and conversation at 11 a.m. Stephen Smith, independent scholar with Oxbridge Research Associates and emeritus professor of communication at the University of Arkansas, will be leading the program.

Nurses

The Retired Nurses of Northwest Arkansas will meet at noon Jan. 29 in classroom A at Northwest Medical Center of Bentonville for an informative presentation. An optional lunch is available beginning at 11:15 a.m. at the Allspice Cafe and may be brought across the hall to the classroom.

Myeloma

Hope Cancer Resources offers a support group for myeloma patients, caregivers and loved ones. The Northwest Arkansas Myeloma Support Group will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 4 at Hope Cancer Resources, 5835 W. Sunset Ave. in Springdale. The meeting will be co-facilitated by a 22-year survivor and will provide education, support and the opportunity to share personal experiences.

Garden Club

The Garden Club of Rogers will meet at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 5 at the First Presbyterian Church at the corner of New Hope Road and 26th Street.

The speaker will be Mark Clippinger, park superintendent at Hobbs State Park. The program will be on natural resources.

There will be a horticulture report and a drawing for plant of the month, and there will also be pass-along plants and magazines.

Lunch is catered, and reservations are required.

Recovery

Hope Cancer Resources offers a support group for patients who have completed treatment for any type of cancer. Empower Your Recovery is a five-week program that provides support and education for living beyond cancer, after treatment ends. The group will meet from 3 to 4 p.m. each Wednesday from March 27until April 24 at Hope Cancer Resources, 5835 W. Sunset Ave. in Springdale. Members must RSVP by March 15.
