Clifford Thornton has been named assistant state conservationist for management and strategy for the USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service in Little Rock.

BANKING

Southern Bancorp has assigned LaRay White of Blytheville and Brooke Beck of Arkadelphia to the newly created positions of Community Relations Leader in their markets.

APPOINTMENTS

Harold Dean, the clinical social work program manager for the Myeloma Center at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, is now the president-elect of the Association of Social Work Board's board of directors. Dean will serve as president-elect for one year, followed by a two-year term as president and a fourth year as past president.

HEALTH CARE

Dr. Bertrand Fonji has joined Baptist Health Surgical and Specialty Clinic-Conway at Baptist Health Medical Center-Conway. Dr. David Gilliam has been hired to work at Baptist Health Orthopedic Clinic-Little Rock.

HIGHER EDUCATION

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences has promoted from within for two high-level administrative positions. Christina Clark has been named vice chancellor for institutional support services and chief operating officer. She had been interim vice chancellor for administration. Before that, she was the chancellor's chief of staff. Clark will oversee Campus Operations, Information Technology and the Police Department. Also, Amy Wenger has been named the chancellor's chief of staff. She most recently served as administrator of the Women and Infant Health Service Line and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the College of Medicine.

Dawn Stoyanoff, higher education and academic practice director for Information Services Group in Austin, Texas, has been hired as the new associate vice chancellor of Information Technology Services and chief information officer at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.

Williams Baptist University, a private Christian university in Walnut Ridge, has announced a restructuring of its administration. The appointments are Doug Walker, vice president for university advancement and operations/chief operating officer; Brett Cooper, vice president for creative services and technology and special assistant to the president; Brad Baine, vice president for academic affairs and campus life; Angela Flippo, vice president for enrollment management; and Aaron Andrews, interim bursar.

Caleb Lang has joined the firm of Anderson, Murphy & Hopkins, L.L.P., as an associate.

NONPROFITS

Missy Darwin Kincaid has been named the Northwest Arkansas development director for the Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families. She will work out of the organization's Springdale office.

Nicole Herndon is the new executive director of the National Park College Foundation in Hot Springs. Herndon had been serving as interim director of the community college. She started in December 2017 as assistant director.
