2 motorists, 2 pedestrians die in 4 Arkansas traffic accidents

At least four people died in separate road accidents since Friday, including two pedestrians.

A driver suffered fatal injuries in a head-on crash with a tractor-trailer in Sevier County on Sunday, police said.

Bobby Smith, 20, was driving north on U.S. 71 near Lockesburg at about 4:45 p.m. when his 2010 Ford Fusion crossed the centerline and crashed into a Volvo tractor-trailer headed south, according to a preliminary report by Arkansas State Police. Smith, who lived in Lockesburg, died at the scene, authorities said.

Conditions were clear and dry at the time of the crash, according to a the preliminary report.

One teenager was killed and another was hurt in eastern Arkansas when a pickup veered off a highway Sunday morning and overturned, authorities said.

The Arkansas State Police said the crash happened just before 6 a.m. along Arkansas 1 south of Colt. A preliminary report said a Ford F-150 went into a ditch and hit a driveway before overturning.

A passenger, 19-year-old Steven Kendrick of Atoka, Tenn., suffered fatal injuries, the report said.

The driver, 18-year-old Nicholas Sparks of Savannah, Tenn., was brought to a Memphis hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. No update on his condition was immediately available on Monday.

Police noted clear and dry conditions at the time of the crash.

Two pedestrians were struck and killed in separate accidents in Pulaski County on Saturday, state troopers said.

Tonelle Brown, 41, was trying to put fuel into a vehicle stopped in a lane of traffic at the James Street entrance ramp to U.S. 67 in Jacksonville about 6:10 p.m. when a 2010 GMC Sierra attempting to enter the interstate hit him, according to a preliminary report by Arkansas State Police.

Police said Brown, who was from North Little Rock, died of his injuries.

Shortly before 10:45 p.m., 42-year-old Kelly Wood of Harrison attempted to cross Interstate 30 on foot near mile marker 140 near downtown Little Rock, authorities said. According to troopers, as Wood traveled from west to east across the road she was struck and killed by a 1989 Honda Accord traveling west.

Conditions were described as clear and dry at the time of both crashes, the reports stated.
