I-30 closures set in Saline County

Work on a $187.3 million project to widen a section of Interstate 30 in Saline County is requiring another round of lane closings and the closing of a Saline River access point for two years, the Arkansas Department of Transportation said.

Work to reconstruct the intersection of West Sevier Street and the I-30 frontage road on the north side of the interstate will require closures through Aug. 17, weather permitting. Access to area businesses will be maintained, the department said. Traffic will be controlled with construction barrels and signs.

Additionally, the westbound lane of West Sevier Street will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. for two days to replace a drainage pipe at the intersection. Westbound traffic on the frontage road will be directed underneath the South Street bridge as an alternate route to access West Sevier Street, the department said.

The eastbound and westbound lanes on the north frontage road will be alternately closed from west of the South Street bridge to Bass Lane, weather permitting, to allow the lanes to be re-striped and the placement of a barrier wall. Traffic will be controlled with nighttime flagging operations, construction barrels and signs.

Meanwhile, the long-term closing of the Cherry Gingles Dumouth Public Access Area and Boat Launch will allow crews to safely operate and construct wider interstate bridges over the Saline River, the department said.

Signs and barriers are being installed to close Henry Street at the southwest corner of Lake Sunset for about two years until reconstruction is complete on the I-30 Saline River bridges. The closing will restrict access to the Saline River boat launch just north of the I-30 river bridges, the department said.

Signs are also being installed upstream at the Lyle Park Saline River access to warn floaters of the bridge construction.

The work is part of a project to widen a 5.5-mile section of I-30 between Sevier Street and U.S. 70 to six lanes from four. The project also includes improvements at the I-30/U.S. 67 interchange.
