EDITORIAL: Listen to Walmart

The trade war with China continues as President Trump finds no negotiation to his satisfaction. That means the dance will repeat. We hit China with tariffs, they hit us right back with their own, and on and on it goes while some of our farmers watch in dismay. But a new voice has entered the debate now, and it's from Arkansas.

More than 600 companies wrote the White House last Thursday warning of damage to jobs, business and the overall economy if this trade war continues. Walmart was one of the companies. Here's more from CNN:

"'We know firsthand that the additional tariffs will have a significant, negative, and long-term impact on American businesses, farmers, families, and the U.S. economy,' the companies said in the letter. 'An escalated trade war is not in the country's best interest, and both sides will lose.'"

After the company's giant display of raw power and reach of its stores around the world last week, we're fairly convinced that Walmart might know a thing or two about our economy and a little more about business. So if the country's largest private employer warns against continuing this trade war, it's probably in America's best interest to listen.
