SATURDAY

Children's Gallery

Historic Arkansas Museum, 200 E. Third St., Little Rock, celebrates the reopening of its Sturgis Children's Gallery, a brand new permanent exhibit designed especially for kids 4-10, 9 a.m.-noon Saturday. The redesigned gallery, based on the museum's historic site, lets children interact with things they see but can't touch on the grounds tour: using a skeleton key to unlock the door of a period-inspired playhouse, pick plush vegetables from a mini garden, pump a bellows to stoke a cooking fire and play dress-up in 19th century clothing. The event will feature food and beverages, hands-on kids' crafts from Zig Zag children's art studio, music from kids' comedy band momandpop and a kids' art show. Admission is free. Call (501) 324-9351 or visit HistoricArkanas.org.

AUDITIONS

Streetcar, Carol

The Argenta Community Theater, 405 Main St., North Little Rock, will hold auditions for two productions:

• 10 a.m.-4 p.m. July 20, by appointment, for A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams. Director Ben Grimes will form his cast of actors 18 or older via cold readings from the script; all ethnicities and genders are welcome. All actors and technical department heads will receive a stipend. Dates for the production, in conjunction with the Acansa Arts Festival of the South, are Sept. 17- 22. Rehearsals begin Aug. 14.

• 6-9 p.m. July 21, by appointment, for A Christmas Carol, adapted by Judy Goss from the Charles Dickens classic. Director Vincent Insalaco will cast primarily from readings from the script ("sides" will be available at the auditions, but it's a good idea to be familiar with the story); all roles will require British accents (a dialect coach is part of the production team) and some will require limited dancing or singing (all auditioners will be asked to sing a verse of "We Wish You a Merry Christmas"). Production dates are Dec. 5-15.

Additional details and character/role breakdowns for both shows are available at argentacommunitytheater.org. Callbacks for both shows, if needed, will be 6-9 p.m. July 22. Email casting@argentacommunitytheater.org for an audition slot; you will receive an email notice confirming your appointment. Call (501) 353-1443.
