LITTLE ROCK — Several contestants with ties to the Tri-Lakes Edition coverage area received awards in the Miss Arkansas’ Outstanding Teen Pageant, which culminated June 14 with the crowning of Miss White River’s Outstanding Teen Sarah Cate Lay of North Little Rock as Miss Arkansas’ Outstanding Teen 2019.
Among the top 15 semifinalists receiving $200 scholarships each were the following:
• Miss Great Hot Springs’ Outstanding Teen Makayla Shipe of Bryant is the daughter of Justin and Sandy Shipe and a student at Bryant High School.
Makayla also received a Newcomers Award of a $100 scholarship given by Yaya’s Euro Bistro and Tommy Lyons; the Overall Vocalist Award of a $600 scholarship given by Mary Beth Byrd and the Miss Arkansas Scholarship Foundation; and the Alpha Talent Award for first-time contestants in opening night ceremonies on June 12. Alpha Award-winners receive a $100 scholarship.
She presented a Broadway vocal rendition of “Defying Gravity” for her talent. Her platform is “Concerts for Kids.”
• Miss Greater Little Rock’s Outstanding Teen Emilee Webb of Poyen is the daughter of Mandy and Thomas Ketchersid and Jamie and Carly Webb and a student at Poyen High School. She was also named a Teens in Action
finalist during the June 14 preliminary competition.
Emilee performed a tap dance to “Soul Man” for her talent, and her platform is “Fostering the Future.”
Other awards announced June 15 included the following:
• The Frances Wilson Non-Finalist Talent Winner, a $500 scholarship given by CJ Wilson, was awarded to Miss Henderson State University’s Outstanding Teen Phoebe Johnson of Little Rock. She is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Anthony Johnson and a student at Mount St. Mary Academy in Little Rock.
Phoebe presented a piano/voice rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” for her talent, and her platform is “Arts Matter.”
