The senior just missed that goal but still won one of the fastest 1,600-meter races in recent Arkansas history.

Quandt won easily with a time of five minutes, 1.29 seconds, but the Rogers High trio of Anna Jeffcoat (5:08.16), Hailey Day (5:10.21) and Ali Nachtigal (5:10.62) went 2-4 to make up the fastest high school girls' mile in recent Arkansas history, according to meet officials. Quandt's time ranked fourth all-time in modern history, shaving more than six seconds off her personal best.

Quandt admitted she surprised herself a little but just tried to follow the advice of Lady Tigers coach Randy Ramaker to keep a 75-second pace for each lap which would turn into a five-minute mile. She was trying to top the qualifying standard for the state meet of 5:18 and change. That was no problem as the top five finishers in the race beat that mark.

"Our plan was just to try to go out and qualify and then see how hard we could go," Quandt said. "It was a pretty big PR for me. My teammates also PR'd by a bunch in the mile, so it was a fun race.

Quandt says she can go faster, so she now has a goal of going under five minutes to possibly join a select group of currently just three runners who have achieved that time.

"I hope so," Quandt said. "I felt pretty good after the race."

She must have felt pretty good because Quandt went on to also win the 800 later in the meet.

Ramaker was also pleased with Quandt's race.

"On a day like today, she got out and went after it," Ramaker said. "She's capable because she's strong and she's a senior. She's gonna go to Arkansas, and she's pretty good."

Rogers High girls coach Becky Efurd said Day, Nachtigal and Jeffcoat had heard Quandt would be going out at a 75-second pace and they weren't sure what to do.

"I told them 'You go with her', because you can do it," Efurd said. "And they did. Our goal is for our three girls to break five. Lainey's a great girl, and she's great competition. They just make each other better."

Bentonville High claimed both team titles. The Lady Tigers racked up 177 points to outdistance second-place Rogers, which finished with 155.

The Lady Tigers' Sydney Suggs earned the girls high-point award, while Fayetteville's Isaiah Sategna earned the boys' honor, winning both the long jump and the 200.

The Tigers rolled up 163.83 points, while Fayetteville was second with 137. Bentonville's Bryant Parlin picked up a double, winning both the discus and shot put.

Rogers High's Georgia Brain also won the girls' 100 hurdles and the triple jump. Rogers Heritage's Tayonna Wilson claimed the girls' 100- and 200-meter races.
