Crookston at Hibernia; Big Piph to 'Glow' at Ron Robinson

Singer-songwriter Joe Crookston performs for the Little Rock Folk Club at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Hibernia Irish Tavern in Little Rock. Admission is $15, $10 for military, $8 for students with ID and free for accompanied children 12 and younger.

Crookston, a native of Randolph, Ohio, attended Kent State University, where he changed his musical focus from classical guitar to folk music after attending the Kent Sate Folk Festival. He released his debut album, Fall Down as the Rain, in 2004, which Performing Songwriter Magazine selected as one of the year's top 12 self-produced independent recordings.

In 2007, he received a Rockefeller Foundation grant to spend a year traveling in New York state's Finger Lakes region, collecting stories to turn into songs. Since 2015, he has lived in Ithaca, N.Y., the center of the Finger Lakes folk music scene.

His other albums include Able Baker Charlie & Dog in 2008 and Darkling & the BlueBird Jubilee in 2011.

LeMaster, first exposed to the blues at age 3 in her father's tavern in Illinois, has performed with blues and jazz artists John Lee Hooker, B.B. She has also opened for rockers Heart, Judas Priest, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts and Steppenwolf.

She will be accompanied by guitarist Scott Holt, who spent a decade on the road with Buddy Guy and has performed with Eric Clapton, John Mayall, Albert Collins, Jack Bruce, Carlos Santana and Richie Sambora.
