Test boats at demo day

The annual canoe and kayak demo day is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 1 at Lake Ann Park in Bella Vista.

Ozark Mountain Trading Company will have several canoes and kayaks on hand for people to try on the water. Paddlers are welcome to test as many boats as they'd like. Paddlers should plan to get wet.

Tournament benefits Young Life

The third annual NWA Young Life benefit bass tournament is June 1 at Beaver Lake out of Prairie Creek park.

Entry fee is $50 per team with an optional $10 for the big bass contest. Fishing is from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. First prize is $1,500, with cash prizes through seventh place.

Register at Hickory Creek Marina; Hook, Line and Sinker in Rogers; Southtown Sporting Goods in Fayetteville; or at Prairie Creek park on tournament morning.

Fishing program geared for women

Wine, Women and Fly Lines is set for 2 to 5 p.m. June 2 at Sassafras Vineyard and Winery, 6461 E. Guy Terry Road in Springdale.

The $25 cost includes two glasses of wine, food, fly fishing instruction and prize drawings. The event is geared toward women, but men are welcome to attend. Kids under 16 are admitted free.

Activities include fly casting, knot tying, fly tying, rigging and more. Vendors will have booths with fly fishing gear on display.

Free fishing weekend near

Free Fishing Weekend in Arkansas is June 7-9. Residents and nonresidents may fish without a license or trout permit from noon June 7 to midnight June 9.

In conjunction, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will host fishing derbies around the state from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 8. A derby will be held at the Charlie Craig State Fish Hatchery, 977 W. Fish Hatchery Road in Centerton. Kids can fish for catfish at the hatchery.

Fish with a veteran

John W. Brown Fishing with a Vet buddy bass tournament is set for 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 8 at Beaver Lake. One or two veterans must be part of each two-person team.

Entry fee is $70 per boat. First prize is $1,000; second, $700; third, $500; and big bass prize is $200.

Register at Hook, Line and Sinker in Rogers, Southtown Sporting Goods in Fayetteville or Cross Church in Springdale.

Parson tops Elite field

Nicky Parson won the Beaver Lake Elite Series bass tournament May 11 at Beaver Lake. His five bass weighed 15.68 pounds.

Clint Williams was second with five bass at 15.39 pounds. Daniel Sparlin Jr. placed third with five bass at 15.11 pounds. Fourth through 10th, all with five bass: fourth, Ronnie Eldridge, 14.58; fifth, Kevin Kester, 14.31; sixth, Robert Burkes, 13.84; seventh, Steven Meador, 13.8; eighth, Gary Porter, 13.75; ninth, Rick Carpenter, 13.35; 10th, Jason Mitchell, 13.31.

Porter had big bass at 5.66 pounds. A total of 130 anglers competed. Anglers fish solo in Elite events.
