• First lady Melania Trump on Wednesday visited a Boston hospital that uses cuddling to help infants born dependent on drugs or alcohol. The first lady met with caregivers and administrators at Boston Medical Center and told them she's "very focused" on their pioneering work with babies born with neonatal abstinence syndrome. "I hope today's visit helps shine a light on programs like yours," Trump said. The hospital developed the cuddling program to nurture babies born with neonatal abstinence syndrome. The hospital also works with expectant mothers who misuse drugs or alcohol. Proponents say cuddling helps lower stress in infants born to addicted women. It includes parental presence at the infant's bedside, skin-to-skin contact and breastfeeding. The first lady made the visit as part of her Be Best initiative, saying she hopes the focus on such programs will help encourage people struggling with addiction to see that there is a path forward. But as many as 200 workers gathered outside the hospital to protest the visit, condemning the tough immigration policies of President Donald Trump's administration that they say discourage immigrants from getting health care. Some protesters wore white hospital jackets with the slogan, "We really do care, do you?" on the backs. Others carried signs that read, "BMC cares for all patients."

• French actress Catherine Deneuve has had a mild stroke while filming her latest movie, the screen star's family said Wednesday. The 76-year-old Deneuve suffered a "very limited and therefore reversible" stroke, according to a family statement from Artmedia, the agency that represents Deneuve. It said no further statements were planned. "Fortunately, she has no motor deficits (but) must, of course, take some time to rest," the statement said. Deneuve was hospitalized in Paris. No details were given on when she had the stroke, but French media outlets reported that it happened late Tuesday or early Wednesday. Deneuve has been filming De son vivant (In One's Lifetime), the story of a mother who loses her son to cancer. It was the third film by director Emmanuelle Bercot starring Deneuve, who first came to prominence in Jacques Demy's 1964 musical The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. Longevity in the industry is one of Deneuve's greatest skills. She has dazzled red carpets as fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent's muse and won myriad awards in a career that spans seven decades. Deneuve has won several Cesar Awards, France's answer to the Oscars, including for Francois Truffaut's 1980 hit The Last Metro. She consolidated her status with an Academy Award nomination for the Oscar-winning Indochine, a drama set in colonial French Indochina in the 1930s to 1950s.
