Red Cross

seeks blood

The American Red Cross urges people of all races and ethnicities to give blood or platelets to help increase the diversity of the blood supply.

The vast majority of blood types fall into one of the major blood groups. However, for patients with rare blood types or those who receive regular blood transfusions, blood must be matched closely -- beyond the primary A, B, O and AB blood types -- to reduce the risk of developing complications from transfusion therapy. The best match may be someone of the same racial or ethnic group.

Upcoming blood donation opportunities include:

•Fayetteville: 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Oct. 7, Kappa Sigma Fraternity, 711 W. Dickson St.; 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Oct. 15, University of Arkansas

Another wrote: "Miller shows us, in this important and harrowing book, that climate-drive immigration is set to become one of the defining issues of our time."

Miller has spent the majority of his life close to the U.S. international boundary, south and north. For the past 15 years he has researched, written about and worked on immigration and border issues.
