Church notes: Lenten suppers scheduled

Bella Vista Community Church, 75 E. Lancashire Blvd., hosts Lenten soup suppers and meditations in McKay Hall at 5:30 p.m. each Wednesday through April 1. Ham and bean soup will be served March 18. Meditations begin at 6:20 p.m. Suggested donation is $3 per person or $5 per family.

Join the congregation on Maundy Thursday, April 9, for a Passover Seder led by Pastor Anna in McKay Hall at 6:30 p.m. Please sign up to ensure a seat and enough food for the teaching that explains how Passover pictures the work Christ has done on our behalf.

The current sermon series is titled "Gospel Shaped Worship" and concludes Easter Sunday.

Bella Vista Lutheran Church, 1990 Forest Hills Blvd., and its Shoe Box Ministry need 50 shoe boxes to fill with items for the needy. Along with soaps, shampoos, etc. they would also like copies of Reader's Digests and Guideposts. There is a container for your donations in the church narthex.

Lenten services are held each Wednesday at 6 p.m. Prior to the service, a supper is being served at 5:15 p.m.

The "Sonday Riders" will meet at 2 p.m. March 22 in the church parking lot for a two-hour ride. All two-, three- and four- wheel vehicles are welcome.

The Men's Bible study meets on Mondays at 1 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. in the church library. The Quilters meet on March 25 starting at 8:30 a.m. Ladies Marathon Bridge meets on March 19 at 12:30 p.m.

The Shepherd's Food Pantry is open every Friday from 10 a.m. until noon. Along with the food items needed they also collect the PVC "Best Choice" labels. A container for your donations is in the church narthex.

Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rogers, 2305 S. Dixieland Road, hosts Lenten vesper services at 7 p.m. Wednesdays until Easter, each preceded by a soup and sandwich supper at 6:15 p.m.

Church Council meets at 7 p.m. March 19.

Highland Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Bella Vista, 1500 Forest Hills Blvd., hosts a guest speaker for the Sunday morning service. Pastor Gary Chapman will be speaking on "Chains and Trains" taken from Romans 5:1-11.

Chapman was licensed and served as a Methodist preacher and also was ordained and served in the United Church of Christ. He taught religion and philosophy at Southeastern (Iowa) Community College.

There will be a fellowship meal following the 10:30 a.m. service, which is open to all.

The Presbyterian Church of Bella Vista, 1880 Forest Hills Blvd., invites potential members to worship with us during this Lenten season at the traditional worship service each Sunday at 10 a.m. Christian education classes for all ages meet at 8:30 a.m. A nursery attendant is available. Stay for coffee fellowship after the service. We always welcome new friends.

St. Bernard Catholic Church in Bella Vista, 1 Saint Bernard Lane, has canceled its Friday Fish Fry events for March 20 and April 3.

United Lutheran Church of Bella Vista, 100 Cooper Road, hosts Lenten Supper worship services at 6 p.m. Wednesdays through April 1. All are welcome.

A St. Patrick's Day Stew Supper is planned for 5 p.m. March 17. This is the annual fundraiser to support current and future youth as they travel to tri-annual Youth Gatherings. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased through the church office.

Village Bible Church in Bella Vista, 1591 Forest Hills Blvd., opens the Oasis Food Pantry from 10 a.m. to noon March 11. This ministry is available to anyone in the area who needs help with groceries and would appreciate the compassion and encouragement of friendly volunteers. A potluck fellowship dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. At 6:30 p.m. there will be singing, devotions and prayer in the Worship Center. Infant and toddler nursery for kids is offered as well, and the community is always warmly welcomed.
