Bush aide, family to speak at lecture

The Clinton Presidential Center will present a virtual conversation hosted via Zoom featuring Jean Becker and some members of former President George H.W. Bush's family at 6:30 p.m. May 27.

The event -- "Bridge Builders: An Inspiring Conversation with Jean Becker" -- was originally scheduled to take place March 17. It is part of the Bridge Builders series sponsored by Coulson Oil and which features stories of distinguished change makers, thinkers and influencers.

Each Bridge Builders event allows featured speakers to share insights on important challenges, opportunities and issues. It is called Bridge Builders because the hope is that audience members will be encouraged to learn more or do something that adds to the bridge that, together, builds to the future, according to the event website.

Becker will discuss Pearls of Wisdom: Little Pieces of Advice (That Go a Long Way), a book she edited, written by former first lady Barbara Bush, and will share reflections from her time working with the Bush Family. Becker will be joined by Dorothy Walker "Doro" Bush Koch, the only living daughter of former President George H.W. Bush, and Koch's sons.

Becker was a chief of staff to George H. W. Bush, supervising his office in Houston and Kennebunkport, Maine, from 1994 until his death in 2018 and overseeing the opening of the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum in 1997. She took a leave of absence in 1999 to edit and research All the Best, George Bush: My Life in Letters and Other Writings.

Before that, Becker was deputy press secretary to former first lady Barbara Bush from 1989 to 1992 and helped her with the editing and research for her books Barbara Bush, A Memoir and Reflections. She is a former journalist.

Copies of Pearls of Wisdom are available for purchase through the Clinton Museum Store online.
