UCA 'Rivals'

The University of Central Arkansas theater will perform, by stream, Richard Brinsley Sheridan's "The Rivals," 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Friday and 2 p.m.

Saturday on UCA Theatre's Twitch channel (twitch.tv/uca_theatre) and via YouTube (tinyurl.com/y25vzw2e). It's free to tune in.

OBU 'Hay Fever'

Ouachita Baptist University's theater arts department will stage "Hay Fever" by Noel Coward at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the university's Verser Theatre.

Because of covid-19, in-person seating is limited to OBU students, faculty and staff, but the performances will be available for livestream.

Student art

Undergraduate art students at the University of Central Arkansas will show their work in the university's Baum Gallery, McCastlain Hall, at UCA, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway, today through Dec. 4.

An opening reception, 4-7 p.m. Nov. 5, will be followed by another open viewing, 2-4 p.m. Nov. 15.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Wednesday and Friday and 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday.

Admission is free; face coverings are required to enter the gallery and social distancing and other covid-19 safety precautions are in force.

Fairfield Bay felines

The Fairfield Bay Animal Protection League and Women With a Purpose are seeking, via an online art auction, to raise $8,775 to remodel space at the Fairfield Bay Animal Shelter for a cat infirmary.

Arkansas artists have donated drawings, paintings, jewelry, sculpture, photography, pottery, textiles and art in other media.

Art visits El Dorado

The Arkansas Arts Council's touring 2020 Small Works on Paper exhibition showcasing the work of Arkansas artists opens at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the Merkle and Price Galleries at the South Arkansas Arts Center, 110 E. Fifth St., El Dorado.

The exhibition, 39 pieces no larger than 18 by 24 inches, will remain up through Nov. 23.

'First Round'

The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and Ballet Arkansas are teaming up for an open-air collaborative concert titled "First Round," 3 p.m. Nov. 15 in front of Matt McLeod's "koi" mural, overlooking a parking lot at Sixth and Main streets, Little Rock.

Ballet Arkansas company dancers Hannah Bradshaw, Matthew Larson, Megan Tillman, Paul Tillman and Isabelle Urben will premiere three works created by company dancers and choreographers as Arkansas Symphony string players play "Last Round" by Osvaldo Golijov and "Adagio for Strings" by Samuel Barber; four percussionists join them for "Magic Box" by Augusta Read Thomas. Geoffrey Robson will conduct.

Haiku conference

The Arkansas Haiku Society will hold its 24th Autumn Haiku Conference, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 13-14, live and via Zoom from the Arlington Hotel, 249 Central Ave., Hot Springs.

Honoring veterans

The Mosaic Templars Cultural Center marks Veterans Day with a virtual celebration at 9 a.m. Nov. 11 via Facebook Live (facebook.com/mosaictemplars/live) and YouTube (tinyurl.com/yy2wwsgp). The program will pay homage to Arkansas' 200,000 veterans while highlighting the history of Black veterans.

Speakers will include Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson; retired U.S. Army Col. Nathaniel "Nate" Todd, secretary of the state Department of Veterans Affairs; U.S. Sen. John Boozman, R-Ark.; poet and teacher Stacey McAdoo; and artist and veteran Ed Drew.

The event will include messages from the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, the Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum, Arkansas National Guard Museum, the Arkansas Air & Military Museum and the Jacksonville Museum of Military History.
