Today is a previously designated virtual instruction day for all kindergarten-through-12th-graders in the Little Rock School District.

All students -- except prekindergartners -- will participate in instruction from their homes using the Schoology online-learning platform if they have electronic devices to do so, said Darian Smith, the executive director of elementary education.

Prekindergartners will attend school at their campuses.

Employees will report to their school buildings to work on lesson plans for virtual and on-site students.

Regular on-site instruction resumes Thursday.

Deputy Superintendent Jeremy Owoh said Tuesday that all-student virtual instruction days will occur monthly. In addition to lesson planning, district employees will use the days to participate in professional development and for deep cleaning of the campuses.

District leaders also said they are asking faculty members to suggest ways in which teaching staff members can be provided more time on a regular basis to prepare lessons for in-person and virtual students this school year.

"We do hear you ... and we are trying to find more time for you to prepare for the huge task" of juggling online and in-person instruction at the same time, said Randy Rutherford, executive director for secondary education.
