Honors for honorable

As long as we are taking the day off from any kind of politics, let us mention that Madam Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was the first woman to lie in state at the U.S. Capitol on Friday.

Americans of both political parties, and no political party, were able to pay their respects for the Hon., and honorable, Justice Ginsburg.

The high honor of lying in state was well-deserved, but we were surprised that she was the first woman. Since the practice started in the mid-1800s, 38 people have been given this respect--according to CNN's count--including 12 presidents. But until Friday, no lady.

We suppose that RBG, as she was fondly called by her admirers, just had one more record to break, one more historic mark to check, one more glass ceiling to smash.

The word "pioneer" is thrown around much too loosely these days, but it fits Justice Ginsburg.
